The Ministry of Commerce (MOC) is moving forward to boost the country???s economy by organizing yet another significant trade event of the year, the THAIFEX- World of Food ASIA 2011 featuring over 2,600 booths and more than 1,000 companies. Now in its 20th year, this long-standing series aims to effectively establish a strong presence of Thai food products in international markets and to promote Thailand as one of the most significant destinations for food products, food technology and food exposition in ASIA Pacific.

THAIFEX-World of Food ASIA 2011 is an international exposition that will attract potential buyers from around the globe. The event features a vast variety of innovative food products and technologies from leading food companies domestically and internationally. This year, in particular, the number of overseas exhibitors has increased by 15% from key markets such as Brunei, China, Myanmar, South Korea, as well as, a number of enthusiastic first-timers from Mexico and Italy.

The food industry has continuously played an important role in Thailand???s economy, and today, the world???s food demand tends to increase due to the increased population and prosperity in many key markets such as ASEAN countries, China, India and Russia. Also, another reason for the world???s rising food demand is the effect of natural disaster in many food-producing countries. Thailand???s food export industry has directly benefited from this and has expanded substantially, especially during the first three month of 2011 when the total export value reached US$6,287.67 million, or an 18.66% increase from the same period in 2010.

With this surge demand, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) has adjusted its target for Thailand???s overall export growth to increase from 10% to 12%, taking the country???s total export value to be approximately US$23,777.28 Million, from last year.
