Where To Shop for Vintage Items in Bangkok – Bangkok’s Railway Weekend Market (Talat Rot Fai)

Bangkok’s Railway Weekend Market or Train Market??(Talat Rot Fai)

Shopping simply does not end at Chatuchak Weekend Market, head down to Bangkok???s Railway Weekend Market (Talat Rot Fai) after 6pm. The market occupies a large plot of land and warehouses vacant by the State Railway Department on the edge of the Bang Sue rail yard. This is the venue where you can shop around for vintage items. Since July of last year, the retro flea market is fast becoming a popular hang-out place for its good street food and ambience.

A perfect venue to source for vintage and collectable items (Talat Rot Fai, Bangkok)

Talat Rot Fai or the Railway Weekend Market is much bigger and has more variety than the Ratchada Night market located on the corner of Ratchada-Lad Phrao junction. There are hundred or so stalls selling an incredible range of vintage and retro collectables (What was considered junk but this is a collector???s paradise!) and also a great place to grab a bite or beer and do some people watching.

Unlike the other market, there are some permanent antique furniture shops and restaurants in the old rail warehouses. At the entrance to the market is Troy???s bar/restaurant, Rod???s, a popular gathering place for young people in their 20s and 30s serves up some of the best Thai food in the city. The restaurant gets very crowded as the night falls so get there early if you want a place to sit down.Open from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m on Saturday and Sunday. The antique collectable shops are open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and till late on Saturday/Sunday.

Night markets are great places to shop for bargains without burning a hole in your pocket. Bring a torch (flashlight) as some of the stalls are quite dimly lit or in case of a power failure:-)
