Amazing Thai Food : “Dancing” Shrimp Salad (Yam Goong Dten)

Amazing Thai Food : ???Dancing?? Shrimp Salad (Yam Goong Dten)??

Oh My God!!! The Shrimps are ALIVE!!!

Yam Goong Dten (“Dancing” Shrimp Salad)????is a popular Northeastern Isaan??dish. The tiny river shrimps are eaten alive??mixed with????lime juice, spicy chilli??dressing and mint leaves.??

On our way to visit Thao Suranari Monument in Korat city, we caught sight of a street cart next to The Mall selling??Isaan specialities such as deep fried insects – grasshoppers, grubs etc .????I did not notice the shrimps in the tiny plastic packs until someone shouted: “Look…The shrimps are alive!!!”.??Ms. Li Li from Phya (S) Travel Service??with??almost 30 years??in Thai travel business bought a?? pack??for tonight dinner and I managed to find out ??the name of the dish from her later. I saw it??in Bangkok Chatuchak Weekend Market before.

The salad was served during dinner and some of the shrimps were still alive ” dancing” on the plate.??I picked the dead shrimps. The chilli dressing came with it was really spicy and hot. The mint leaves gave the dish a balance of color, texture, and flavor.

Overall, it is a dish for the brave heart or at least a strong stomach!!! I still prefer my BBQ grilled King River Prawn :-)

Cost

20 THB per pack
