Thailand Street Food – Isan-Style Rotating Grilled Chicken (Gai Moon)

Street food is all over Thailand. It is not only delicious, but it is also plentiful and cheap. Today, I am going to introduce another street food dish to you- Isan-Style Rotating Grilled Chicken (Gai Moon). The cooking method of the chicken is unique. Here, the marinated chicken is grilled over charcoal using a revolving round bar. This dish tastes better the the normal charcoal grilled chicken (Gai Yang). The meat is more tender and juicy to eat. It is usually accompanied by spicy Green Papaya Salad (Som Tam), most popular salad dish in Thailand.

A typical “Gai Moon” stall (Northeastern region of Thailand)

The whole grilled chicken costs only 140 THB (about US$4.50 at 31 baht to the dollar, for a whole bird)…cheap cheap:-)
